Established in December 1993 by the visionary Madam Marci Walker, Madam Walkers Braidery and Salon has been a beacon of excellence in the natural hair care industry. In 1994, the dynamic duo was formed when Madam Walker's son, Shanti, joined the salon. Together, they have embarked on a remarkable journey, making significant strides in the art of braiding and locking.
Shanti Walker, a creative genius in natural hair, has earned recognition and admiration from fellow stylists and celebrities. The mother-son team, united by their passion for advocacy, generously shares their talent in both business and the ancient art of braiding. Their dedication is not only a testament to their hard work but also reflects their belief in the philosophy of 'It takes a village.' Committed to 'Paying It Forward,' they play an active role in empowering others.
In 2009, Madam Marci took a bold step by founding the N.A.P.S. (Nature's Answer 4 Professional Stylists) Academy. This visionary institution was established with a mission to impart their collective knowledge of natural hair care and inspire a new generation of stylists. At N.A.P.S. Academy, we believe in nurturing talent and fostering a community of passionate individuals dedicated to the artistry of natural hair.
Madam Marci Walker, a passionate and innovative New Yorker, has been a forward thinker in all her endeavors. As the Executive Director of the S.E.L.F. (Sisters Empowered for Life by Faith) Image Awards, she leads a non-profit charity that raises funds for victims and survivors. The awards also offer tuition-free education scholarships to sisters with a keen interest in studying Natural Hair Care, demonstrating financial need through essays and applications.
